At Hermes Retreats we recognise that our activities have an impact on the environment in terms of the use of raw materials, emissions to air and water and waste generation, and seek to minimise this as far as is reasonably practicable.
Hermes Retreats is committed to:
➤ Continual improvement in its environmental performance
➤ Preventing pollution
➤ Compliance with all environmental legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to the industry sector in which it operates.
We are also of the opinion that the fragile surrounding environment has to be included in local employment and education. In the following please see the key elements of our environmental practices:
➤ Make efficient use of natural resources by conserving energy and water, minimising waste, and recycling where possible.
➤ Meet our duty-of-care requirements in relation to waste by ensuring the safekeeping, transportation and subsequent recovery or disposal of waste.
➤ Actively promote and use recycled and eco friendly materials whenever these can be justified.
➤ Keep transport use to a minimum and regularly service vehicles to maintain their efficiency.
➤ Work with suppliers to ensure they recognise and reduce the environmental impact of their products and transportation.
➤ Liaise with the local community to minimise disruption to the local environment
➤ Encourage members of staff to feedback to management about our environmental performance
➤ Set environmental objectives and publish them in our promotional literature
This policy is communicated to all our employees and appropriate training is given to raise awareness of environmental issues. We review our policy on a regular basis, taking account of any changes within legislation and our organisation, and other factors.
We ensure that our guests are informed about the basic principles of environmental policies and concerns, in particular water scarcity and conservation and energy saving policies. Brochures and reading material is available in all the rooms to allow guests to read at their leisure about our environmental projects and concerns.
Any changes to your policy are being communicated to our employees by giving them each a copy of the amended policy, posting on our notice boards or publishing it in in-house magazines or newsletters. Further more, by making our policy available to members of our supply chain, we try to demonstrate how they can contribute to our environmental objectives and targets.
One of the main aspects of our philosophy is local involvement. We employ people from the area and provide on the job training including environmental education. This improves the qualification of the people from the community and the environmental awareness in this fragile and biological diverse area. We also buy most of our products locally and, whenever available, apply environmental friendly products.
